PREGNANCY, LACTATION AND OLIVE OIL. HOW THEY RELATE?

The consumption of olive oil, has positive effects on pregnancy and lactation. Olive oil plays a key role in fetal development during pregnancy and a shortage of some of the elements, such as vitamin E, present in olive oil can have deleterious effects on the later development of the baby.

During lactation it is advisable to consume more fats, mainly monounsaturated fats, while reducing saturated fats and cholesterol as much as possible. You should follow the general dietary guidelines and control your calorie intake to avoid excessive weight gain. Again the vitamin E, and the oleic acid present in the olive oil consumed by the mother at this stage help maintain a high nutritional value in the breast milk that is given to the newborn.
